meditation photoThis course is a blend of meditation, body awareness and yoga: learning through practice and study how your body handles (and can resolve) stress based on the latest research in neuroscience.

Through this course, you will learn skills that can increase your ability to cope with stress and the challenges of everyday life, deal with difficult events with grace and composure, and be more fully present and alive in this moment.

This roughly parallels the live course which is based on the University of Massachusetts Medical Center’s MBSR program. Included is an Introduction to Mindfulness, including practice, theory and research.

There has been more than 30 years of scientific research, much of it specifically studying mindfulness meditation and it’s effects on health and wellbeing. While mindfulness meditation is not a “cure” for serious medical conditions and should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment, this body of research indicates that mindfulness training can have a significant effect for those experiencing stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, chronic pain, migraines, heart conditions, diabetes and other ailments. In addition, practitioners typically report feeling more alive, more “in-tune” with themselves and others.

In this course:

*You will learn the science behind the practice of mindfulness and why it is a necessary skill for the challenges of everyday living.
*A variety ways to practice mindfulness.
*You’ll learn how to change your relationship with stressful situations and become more emotionally resilient.
*You’ll learn how to be fully alive even in the busiest moments.
*You’ll start to bridge the states of calmness, peace and compassion you experience during meditation into your daily life. As you practice more regularly, your life itself becomes a living meditation.
*And at the end of the six weeks you’ll be on your way to having your own meditation practice, one that you continue to use well into the future.
